RUNY ADDS STRENGTH TO THE PACK
NEW YORK (January 17, 2019)- Rugby United New York is pleased to confirm our two recent acquisitions, Connecticut raised lock, Myles McQuone and NYAC prop, Anthony Parry. Both players come into the side with a season of Major League Rugby under their belt after playing for the New Orleans Gold in the inaugural MLR competition.
McQuone, who stands at 6’5” and weighs 250 lbs is no stranger to on fieldsuccess. Beginning his rugby career at high school in his hometown of Fairfield, Myles eventually went on to become a national champion with local club the ‘Fairfield Yankees’ in 2016. In early 2017, Myles was given the opportunity to tour the US Virgin Islands with the Stars Rugby Sevens select side which won the local Paradise Smash Tournament. After such success as both a player and captain, it wasn’t long before Myles’ talents were brought onto the MLR stage, signing with the Gold in 2017.
As well as a tenacious rugby player, McQuone is a US Marine Technician and Sea Captain.
“Last year, I got a taste of what it takes toplay at the highest level in America,” McQuone told us. “Personally, I didn’t have the season I wanted. So, I came back to the Northeast, hungry and eager to be a force with RUNY.”
In the scrum, McQuone will find himself behind prop Anthony Parry. Parry has been around the professional rugby scene in America for a few years now and will bring valuable veteran experience to the talented RUNY squad. Parry signed on to the Ohio Aviators of the now defunct Professional Rugby Organization in 2016 and played in the league’s only season before making his way to New York and suiting up for premier club side NYAC. After an impressive exhibition season, Parry was signed by the NOLA Gold for the remainder of the 2018 Major League Rugby Season.
“Anthony has worked hard and steadily progressed from his initial days in professional rugby,” said RUNY Head Coach Mike Tolkin. “He became a very strong and reliable prop for us lastseason. We will be counting on his abilities in the 2019 campaign to make us a formidable pack within the MLR.”
We welcome both Myles and Anthony to Rugby United New York and can already see the impact they have both in the locker room and on the field. If you want to see them and the rest of Rugby United New York play live, 2019 season tickets are now available for sale here.

About MLR
MLR is a professional rugby league that launched in April of 2018. It’s an initiative of the American rugby community, in partnership with private investors, who believe that American rugby can thrive at the highest levels: as a commercial enterprise; as an influential player on the international scene; and as a participation sport at the youth and senior level.
