RUNY PRESEASON CONTINUES WITH MATCH AGAINST CAPITAL SELECTS
NEW YORK (December 12, 2018)- Rugby United New York continues their preseason campaign this Saturday, December 15th, with a friendly against the Capital Rugby Union Selects. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM EST at Iona College’s Mazzella Field.
The match will be the second preseason fixture for New York City’s first professional rugby franchise. Earlier this month, RUNY was the victor in the inaugural “Cold War” match against rivals New England Free Jacks. The kicking ability of Fly Half Cathal Marsh proved to be the difference in a back and forth affair. The Irish born stand out was perfect from the tee, nailing 5 conversions and 1 penalty kick for a total of 13 points.
“The athletes have been working hard this preseason,” said General Manager James English. “It is important we give them match time to see how they perform outside of training. These matches are a vital part of our build-up to the Major League Rugby season.”
Admission to the event will be free to the public. The game will not be live streamed, so if you plan on seeing the action, attendance at Mazzella Field is necessary. Merchandise will be available for sale at the match.
Rugby United New York begins their Major League Rugby campaign on January 27 against the San Diego Legion, a Semi-Finalist in the inaugural Major League Rugby season. The home opener is Friday, March 15, against fellow expansion franchise Toronto Arrows. Buy your season tickets here and single game tickets here today.
